Tie Domi was selected in the 2nd round 27th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1988 entry draft. Tie made his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The following season he was traded to the New York Rangers, and scored his first career goal in March, 1991 against the Philadelphia Flyers. During the 1992-93 season Tie was traded to the Winnipeg Jets. Tie was selected by Winnipeg Jets fans as the most popular player in 1994. In April, 1995 Tie was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. His aggressive and rugged style made him a favourite of both team mates and fans.
Tie reached two NHL milestones in his last season; he recorded his 100th career goal vs. Montreal on Oct 08th, and played in his 1000th career NHL game at Buffalo on March 03.
Tie announced his retirement Sept. 19, 2006 after 1020 career NHL games, collecting 245 points (104 goals, 141 assists).
He retires as one of the most celebrated enforcers in the history of the NHL. He ranks third in NHL history in penalty minutes; his 3515 career penalty minutes put him behind only Tiger Williams and Dale Hunter on the all-time list. And in Toronto, he holds the single season (365) and career (2265) record for penalty minutes. In the playoffs he ranks first in all time penalty minutes and second in games played among Maple Leaf right-wingers.
Tie joined TSN as an analyst for the networks comprehensive NHL coverage and made his debut on Oct. 03, 2006. He appears during TSN’s in-studio panel discussions and debates.
Tie is also an accomplished entrepreneur and philanthropist.
