Canada’s Best Female Comedian 2011 Canadian Comedy Awards
Debra’s comedy has a sharp edge while maintaining a happy, playful air. An act so personal everyone can relate to it. Girl next door humour; Corporate clean!
Debra DiGiovanni, one of Canada’s fastest rising standup talents, started her comedy career in 2000. Debra’s humour lies in her unflinching honesty and openness.
Debra DiGiovanni was voted Canada's Best Female Comedian at the 2007 Canadian Comedy Awards. This was her second win – in 2002 she was voted the Best New Stand-Up. In the summer of 2007 Debra appeared on the 5th season of NBC’s hit show Last Comic Standing where she was chosen as a top 10 finalist, competing against comedians worldwide.
Toronto’s NOW Magazine calls her act one of the “Top 10 Comedy Performances” of the year and she was voted the “Best Stand-Up to see after a Messy Break Up”!
Debra is a regular headliner at such comedy clubs as Club 54, Laff Resort and The House of Comedy. In 2005, Debra performed at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal and her own “Comedy Now” special aired on CTV and the Comedy Network. She performed her first gala at the Halifax Comedy Festival in 2005.
A sought-after headliner, she is also a writer and an accomplished voice performer and can be regularly seen on Muchmusic’s highest rated show, “Video On Trial”, along with its spinoff “Stars on Trial”. Debra co-hosted the 2008 Genies as well as the Telefilm awards in Banff. She can also be heard weekly on CBC Radio One for the “Bleep” show, hosted by Shelagh Rogers.
In addition to her corporate work, Debra is planning a Stand-Up tour of Canada in the summer of 2008, as well as working in clubs across America.
“One of the “Top 10 Comedy Performances of the year.”
