2010 Winter Olympic Gold Medalist in Men's Mogul Freestyle Skiing
Alexandre Bilodeau quickly became an enthusiast for the sensational side of freestyle skiing. At the age of 14, he became the best junior Canadian in the three disciplines of freestyle skiing: aerials, moguls and ski-cross.
He joined the national moguls ski team at 17 years old and participated in the Olympic Games in Turin in 2006 where he finished in 11th place.
In 2006 he also won his first World Cup moguls event, becoming the youngest athlete to climb to the top of the podium in this discipline. He finished the 2005/2006 season ranked second in the world.
The year 2009 was a year of vindication since he won the World Freestyle Ski-Cross Championship and was classified in first place at the Moguls World Cup.
In 2010 at the Vancouver Winter Olympics Bilodeau captured the gold in freestyle skiing in the men’s moguls, catapulting Canada into the international limelight. He became the first Canadian to win a gold medal at an Olympics held in Canada.
A personal story of determination, grit and the incredible support that surrounds him, including his ever smiling brother Frédéric, born with cerebral palsy, Alexandre’s story is a triumphant one.
Bilodeau was a member of the Canadian moguls team going to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Bilodeau started out the competition on Sunday, February 14th in favourable conditions. This was unlike the previous day for the women in which they skied in rain, sleet and generally slushy conditions.
Bilodeau finished the qualification run in 2nd place overall. In the final Bilodeau threw a back double full on the first jump and followed it with an iron cross on the second. Together with the second fastest run of the night he scored 26.75 points to win the gold.
With the gold he became the first Canadian to win a Gold Medal in a Canadian-hosted Olympics.
