Profile

A multi-talented Toronto-based ensemble of three vocalists and 3 step-dancers adding an exciting contemporary twist to a Celtic-based sound. Widely known for inducing shaking of the feet! Individual members have won international acclaim for their instrumental and step-dancing prowess, and they have just released their debut full-length CD, Of Cabbages And Kings. Not straitjacketed into a rigidly defined Celtic format, the result is a refreshingly eclectic style. Their sound blends elements of funk, reggae and contemporary-sounding rhythm. Band members have a freewheeling and spontaneous instrumental approach.

All members of Quagmyre are in demand outside the group. For the past four years, three of the band members have been touring with The Chieftains, as on-stage fiddler and step-dancers. These legendary ambassadors of Irish music are renowned for spotting and promoting young talent, and this association has taken them around the world and into appearances at the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize Awards and on Late Night with both David Letterman and Conan O'Brien. Ever-busy band mate, Jon McCann, plays with bands ranging from Caution Jam and Radio Nomad to Jack B. Nimble. This is one quagmire you'll happily fall into!
